Psychosocial health is defined as a state of mental, emotional, social, and spiritual well-being. The thinking portion of psychosocial health is known as mental health.
Course/Module Objectives:
The main objectives of the course are:
- To make students aware of the organizational and financial structure of the health care provision
- To identify the role of politics in the development of health legislation and state welfare implementation provision
- To address the developing relationship between the student and the contemporary role of healthcare within the profession and the need for continuing development
- To outline the approaches to the measurement of health with reference to epidemiological, demographic and social indicators using information retrieval systems.
Course/Module Learning Outcomes:
After completion of the course students are expected to be able:
- To explore the key influences on the development of contemporary nursing organization
- To link current issues in nursing to the historical development of the profession, current policy issues, and continuing professional development
- To explore the way that nursing may be able to influence policy making now and in the future, identifying any likely obstacles
- To demonstrate a growing understanding of the concept of accountability from a personal, professional and legal perspective
- To understand the legal frameworks relating to management of care.
